About us
VEC – Visser Equestrian Concept stands for breeding with high standards: quality, rideability and a responsible approach to both horse and rider.
Our breeding philosophy
Our principle is clear: we use only high-quality, easy-tempered mares from thoroughly proven, reliable dam lines. This is one of the most important foundations for future success. We do not breed solely from a breeder’s perspective, but also from the point of view of the rider.
Our goal is to combine popular as well as performance-proven genetics into one “breeding product” that convinces with presence, correctness and three very good basic gaits. A balanced temperament, above-average rideability and willingness to perform are key criteria for us.
Our broodmares and young horses are carefully selected, partly started under saddle by Simone herself, and almost all of them are awarded and performance tested.
Dressage, show jumping and ponies
In parallel, Thomas has successfully bred show jumpers for many years and — not least through Simone — has also developed a strong passion for dressage horses and riding ponies. His show jumping breeding program, based on Holstein and Hanoverian core breeding regions, will be presented on a dedicated website in due course.
Although our family is now based in Bavaria (Middle Franconia), we continue to orient ourselves towards the core breeding regions of Northern Germany.
Keeping, raising and daily work
All our breeding and young horses are kept at home. This ensures optimal care, short distances and continuous monitoring — from almost every window, we can see the stables and pastures.
As a trained farmer, Thomas places great value on producing our own hay, silage/haylage and straw in top quality. Welfare-friendly keeping is essential for us: our horses and ponies enjoy extensive daily turnout on pasture and/or paddock throughout the year — an important preventive factor, for example regarding respiratory issues and orthopaedic risks.
At night, our broodmares are housed in large, modern boxes with inside and outside windows and receive excellent feeding, attentive care and genuine dedication. Thorough vaccinations and deworming programs as well as regular farrier visits are standard for us.
When our surveillance system alerts us, we do not miss the start of a foaling — and when the long-awaited foal is born healthy, stands up for the first time and soon can play outside, that is when our breeder’s happiness is complete.
After weaning, the foals grow up in small groups in open barns with an adjacent paddock accessible at all times. Because we introduce the halter within the first days of life, they quickly become well-handled. The consistent, positive contact with humans creates an excellent foundation for everything that follows.
We have many ideas and plans for the future — from a show jumping arena to a dressage arena or an indoor riding hall. Which projects will come first remains to be seen. What is certain: we will continue to develop and refine the VEC concept with passion and vision.
Success — national and international
We are very pleased that we have been able to establish ourselves globally over the years, both in breeding and sport. Our ponies and horses are successful not only in Germany — at approvals, mare shows, championships and competitions — but also abroad. Many horses sold internationally have achieved success in breeding and/or sport, including in England, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and the USA.
We are equally happy that our children share the joy of horses: our older kids have found their way into competition sport with their pony, and our “youngest” already loves being in the saddle. It’s clearly in the genes.
